These supports and skills ensure that Riverside participants are better positioned to access job training, employment, and higher education and become active community members. 

  • Riverside offers workforce development for ESL individuals interested in beginning or advancing their careers. The Instructor will also support the non-academic needs of participants by referring them to Riverside’s Case Managers/Counselors.

    • Design and facilitate engaging student-centered, contextualized ESL instruction focused on workplace communication, including industry-relevant vocabulary, pronunciation, and authentic conversational skills necessary for on-the-job success.

    • Provide embedded language support within workforce training settings, adapting ESL instruction in real time to address emerging language, academic, and communication needs.

    • Provide instructional and employment-focused coaching, guiding participants workplace communication practice, career goal-setting, and professional development to build confidence and achieve employment/internship outcomes.

    • Assist participants in developing employment readiness tools, including resumes, interview preparation, and LinkedIn profiles. 

    • Maintain student attendance, progress, goals, and outcomes in accordance with program requirements.

    • Create and share relevant instructional materials, resources and information to support Riverside participants’ language development, employment/internship goals and community integration.

    • Maintain participant notes by documenting the goals and outcomes of participants’ workforce readiness milestones.

    • Collaborate closely with Riverside’s case managers, ESOL instructors, workforce development staff, and program leadership to support participant success.

    • Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

    • Workforce Development training is offered in five-week cycles. The minimum will be 5 teaching hours and 4 hours of curriculum development, office hours, and coordination weekly. 

    • Instructors are compensated the hourly rate up to 12 hours each week. This includes teaching hours, case management/advising student meetings, curriculum development, and collaboration meetings with other ESOL instructors to share best practices for contextualization.

      New York, NY 10018
      (Between 36th and 37th Streets)

    • Prior experience teaching adult ESOL, both in person and online, such as on Zoom, required.

    • Bachelor's degree required; ESOL teaching certification preferred.

    • Experience in curriculum development preferred.

    • Experience preparing students for career pathways preferred.

    • Creative, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education. 

    • Experience with immigrant and underrepresented communities preferred. 

    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.

  • Riverside is committed to practicing salary transparency. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. Riverside offers a compensation package that includes health care and dental insurance—100% covered for the employee; employer-paid group life insurance; and 12 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth, adoption, or placement of a child.
